FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Is IPL?

Light targets the melanin in the hair follicle, which breaks the cycle of hair regrowth. With continued use, it delivers long-lasting hair reduction. An at-home Intense Light Pulse (IPL) hair removal device that uses warm and gentle

Does IPL work on all skin types and hair colors?

Unfortunately not. IPL hair removal technology is not universally compatible. It's not suitable for tattooed and over-tanned skin, wounded areas, and pregnant. Additionally, the technology works best on the body areas with high contrast between hair color and skin tone, which means it is not suited for everyone and every body part. It is limited by IPL technology. It works least on black and dark brown skin tones and white, gray, red, and light blond hair color. Check the skin and hair color chart.

Is the IPL treatment painful?

Not at all!  IPL treatment is painless. Those with sensitive skin may experience discomfort in higher settings, but sticking with a lower intensity level makes treatment very gentle. IPL hair removal is usually safer and less painful. This is because it uses a multi-spectrum light instead of a single-wavelength laser. You might feel a mild tingle in sensitive areas during the treatment, but it shouldn't hurt.

Can I use my 5minskin device over tattoos?

You should not use the IPL over Tattooed skin. The light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the skin than the melanin in your hair, which can lead to bad skin reactions. You should always use your 5minskin handset around your tattoos.

Is it suitable for freckled skin?

It is not recommended to use IPL treatment over dark freckles or moles. Light freckles are fine.

Is it safe for tanned skin?

For the health of your skin, it is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks after tanning before using your handset. If you have a sunburn, you should not use the device for at least one month.

Is hair loss permanent?

By adhering to the prescribed treatment plan, you can expect to achieve up to 80% hair removal. Maintaining a consistent routine is crucial for achieving lasting results. The device targets and destroys hair follicles in the 'anagen' or active growth phase. However, hairs that were not in the 'anagen' phase at the time of treatment may continue to grow. This is why we recommend doing maintenance treatment once every 1-2 months as needed.

How often do I need to use my handset?

1-3 weeks - 3 treatments per week (every 2 days)

4-6 weeks - 2 treatments per week

  • In 3 Weeks*:In less than 3 weeks of consistent treatments, you'll begin to see visible hair growth reduction. (* Refers to a decrease in hair count within 3 weeks, sourced from third-party laboratory testing reports. Individual results may vary)
  • In 6 Weeks*: After 6 weeks of consistent bi-weekly treatments, the hair follicles start to shrink and the hair begins to fall out.
  • In 10 Weeks*: Most people will have achieved the desired results by this stage, with skin becoming smooth and nearly hairless.
Which areas of my body can I use my 5minskin IPL handset?

Your IPL handset is effective to use everywhere that hair grows, including your arms, underarms, hands, legs, chin, neck, back, and bikini line. It is not recommended to use it around your eyes without protective eyewear. Here’s the recommended intensity level for different areas of your body:

Armpits - levels 2-3

Face -  level 2

Legs -  levels 3-4

Arms -  levels 3-4

Bikini area - level 2

Is it necessary to shave before using the handset?

Yes, we recommend that you shave the treatment area before using your handset. Shaving the hair to the appropriate length will help IPL effectively focus on the hair follicles. Before using the device, it is advised to shave your skin and clean the residual hair.

What hair removal can I use between treatments?

You should only shave. Waxing, plucking, threading, and epilation can all reduce the effectiveness of your treatment. This is because the hair follicle needs to be intact for IPL to work.

Is it safe to use the IPL device if I am currently doing skin treatment?

We do not recommend using the handset while doing the skincare treatment. It is also advisable to consult the doctor after the treatment is finished to make sure it is safe to start using the IPL technology.

Is the 5minskin IPL device cordless?

The device is not cordless. Your device needs to be plugged in at all times during the treatment. But the cord is long enough so you can use it comfortably and conveniently wherever you choose.

Yes! We recommend wearing protective glasses during treatment. The glasses are included in the package and they help to protect your eyes from bright flashes.
